This book got published last evening. It is a collection of short poems written in Hindi, with a preface in English. The book is not about solitude. It is about the various rhythms that our heart expresses as we remain with solitude. This platform seeks to explore more such rhythms. But what do we mean when we say solitude? Why not loneliness or even aloneness? I feel that solitude has a certain distinctive ring and sense to it. Ekaant suggests a kind of stillness within, that aloneness does not and loneliness definitely does not. That stillness is not dead, not unmoving. It is the stillness like that of an ocean which creates waves out of the very depth of that stillness. Solitude or ekaant is just that kind of stillness, of thehrav.
A couple of the poems in the book contemplate the question ‘who am I?’. And in posing such question to oneself, if one suddenly doesn’t rush to the opinions of others about the ‘I’ then one finds a place within, that exists. That place exists away from the crowd, even when we are surrounded by people. And once we start becoming attuned to that place within, we can listen to what it expresses. The book is a poetic story of such expressions. And this platform will seek to deepen our attunement with life and all that lives, by deepening attunement with our solitude. It will also sometimes discuss some of the poems in the book.
